19 of the Russian's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with a win over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament final.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a difficult period, winning just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his serving in particular - led to him dropping out of the world's top 10 and finally separating with former mentor Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has consistently progressed in the past month - culminating in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 victory over Frenchman Corentin Moutet.

This represents Medvedev's first championship after the 2023 Rome Masters and maiden on a hardcourt since that period of that year.

Victory also means the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my two daughters at once, so to win a trophy is especially meaningful," stated ranked player Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in that event previously this season.

The player's retrieving strategy and frequent emotional displays on the tennis court had caused some to question if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.

However the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, striving to come to the net and compete assertively, backed up by an better service.

The champion fought back from a deficit in the opening set against the challenging Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players exchanged service breaks in the middle set before Moutet, bidding for his maiden professional victory, took control to create a third set.

The opponent rescued 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before Medvedev won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a shot at the net area, with the Frenchman failing to control a shot after a lengthy match.
